Vitex Agnus Castus is a seed from a Mediterranean shrub, the seeds look just like small grey/black peppercorns.  This description accounts for its other names - Chaste Berry or Monk's Pepper, the herb acquired this name in Medieval times when it was used in the monasteries to help control the young novice's libidos!
