Herb Glossary

Guidelines*

  • Horses: 10-15 grams daily (there is no need to grind this seed up before use)
  • Dogs: palatability is likely to be an issue due to the size of the seed. We recommend using Vitex agnus castus tincture instead
Adminster orally. Please allow at least 4-6 weeks for benefits to be seen. **

** NB It is impossible to provide a generic scoop size with the straight herbs as they vary in density depending on whether the herb is in cut root, seed, flower, or leaf form.  For further research on using straight herbs for animals there are many good books available including Hilary Self's "A Modern Horse Herbal".

Vitex Agnus Castus is a seed from a Mediterranean shrub, the seeds look just like small grey/black peppercorns.  This description accounts for its other names - Chaste Berry or Monk's Pepper, the herb acquired this name in Medieval times when it was used in the monasteries to help control the young novice's libidos!
