Did You Know: Propolis
What is Propolis?
Did you know that honey is not the only thing that bees make? Propolis is a natural resinous substance collected by honeybees from buds and trees. Propolis contains tree resin, essential oils, waxes, and bioflavonoids. Bees coat the entire inside surface of their hives with propolis, polishing it to create one of the most sterile environments known to nature. The sticky filler substance plays a vital role in both protecting the colony from invasion from outside as well as the spread of infection within.
Propolis that we use in our Phytobalm is anti-microbial, effective in the destructions of Gram-positive bacteria, both streptococcus and staphylococcus bacteria. It also has a superoxide radical scavenging action again Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Phytobalm, our “magic cream” is a healing, soothing cream ideal for minor wounds, skin irritations or simply sore damaged skin. Phytobalm is made using a Shea Butter base to which is added, Marigold (Calendula) oil and plant extract, for its supreme skin healing properties, St John’s Wort (Hypericum) for sore or damaged nerve endings, Myrrh which is specific for slow to heal or “wet” wounds, and Propolis with its anti-bacterial action and Honey to encourage rapid healing and hair re-growth. Phytobalm is absolutely safe to use on any animal & it does not contain any parabens or petroleum-based preservatives.
