Six – galloping neck and neck, heads extended, nostrils flared as they race across the plains. Lungs pulling in air to supply the muscles with vital oxygen. This is what we all love to see, the epitomy of equine health and fitness. It may be a wild mustang racing along a rutted mountain track or a highly bred Thoroughbred Sports Horse galloping over the turf at the Kentucky Horse Park. Whatever the activity, for a horse to perform at its best it must have an efficient and healthy respiratory system, uncompromised by infection, irritation, inflammation or residual mucus. Air quality continues to deteriorate worldwide, leading to an increase in respiratory disorders in the human population. Our horses are no different, they breathe the same air as us and are proving to be just as susceptible to seasonal allergens as we are. Winter time brings its own set of problems, with reduced access to grazing and more hours spent in barns and stalls, often with restricted airflow which can contribute to poor respiratory health. To help you support your horses respiratory system and ensure it stays in optimum condition, we have produced a range of dried and liquid herbal formulations, rich syrups, essential oil sprays and homeopathic products, to help your horse maintain a healthy respiratory system whatever the season. Hilton Herbs – The Natural Answer for Respiration
This formulation has been produced to help support healthy, efficient, airways and resistance to irritants, all year round. We particularly recommend this mix for horses that are barn or stall kept, or for those that have restricted access to pasture.

How long will the herbs take to work?
The time it takes for the herbs to be absorbed into your horse or pony's system will vary slightly according to each individual. However, in general terms, you need to allow 2-3 weeks for the dried herbs, and 7-10 days for the herbal tinctures (liquids). Straight tinctures are generally absorbed more rapidly, typically 5-7 days. Some of our customers have reported a beneficial effect after only a few days (as previously mentioned all horses and ponies are individuals).
1. Its not unusual for your horse or pony to have a snotty nose after having Freeway for a week or so, this is just an indication that the mix is doing its job.
2. Eyebright (Euphrasia officinalis) herb makes a wonderful lotion for bathing sore, tired, irritated eyes, for both horses or humans.
To make an eyewash put about 3g of Eyebright dried herb in a small saucepan with a lid, add 100ml of cold water, bring slowly to the boil, and simmer gently for 3-4 minutes. Keeping the lid on the saucepan, remove from the heat and leave to cool and once cooled the liquid can be strained. Soak cotton pads in the eyebright eyewash and bathe eyes. Don't waste the strained herb, this can be added to your horse's feed. Any unused eyewash can be put into a closed jam-jar and kept for a couple of days in the fridge.
