Hilton Herbs wins Trademark Battle

Hilton Herbs are pleased to announce that they have successfully registered their trademark in a number of Asian countries, including Taiwan and China. This has come as welcome news as a tough legal battle has delayed the process considerably, subsequent to a Taiwanese company applying to the Taiwan Intellectual Property Office to register the name of Hilton Herbs as their trademark!
Hilton Herbs was fortunate enough that one of its three principal Taiwanese importers, Sofydog, informed them of what was happening after they were issued with the threat of legal action if they (Sofydog) continued to import our products. Hilton Herbs would like to publicly thank the owners of Sofydog for their support through this unpleasant process. Ultimately it meant that if Hilton Herbs did not contest the application they would be prevented from importing product into Taiwan and would not have the right to use their own name!

Hilton Herbs is no stranger to legal battles regarding trademarks thanks to a previous legal battle with the Hilton Hotel chain and yet again refused to lie down and be beaten.

In this case we had to provide evidence to prove Hilton Herbs was an international brand and had been successfully trading for over 20 years. At considerable expense Hilton Herbs had to engage both UK and Taiwanese trademark lawyers but is delighted it is all over and now have their name and logo trademarked in both English and the local Han characters.

Managing Director Tony Self said ‘We consider our expansion into the markets in the Far East an important part of our business plan for the next year and beyond. Our export sales are continuing to grow and every week we seem to have a new enquiry from Asia wanting to distribute our products, however this experience has certainly highlighted the importance of IPR when trading to a global market.
