Many people using eBay are already familier with PayPal, however for the unitiated, here is a brief explanation below, courtesy of Wikipedia:

"PayPal is an e-commerce business allowing payments and money transfers to be made through the Internet. Online money transfers serve as electronic alternatives to traditional paper methods such as cheques and money orders.

A PayPal account can be funded with an electronic debit from a bank account or by a credit card. The recipient of a PayPal transfer can either request a cheque from PayPal, establish their own PayPal deposit account or request a transfer to their bank account."

One of the big advantages PayPal is being able to pay for online purchases without divulging one's credit card details, which is a huge benefit, particularly when buying from an online store for the first time.

Despite hype from time to time, relating to individual bad experiences with PayPal, the system is hugely popular and there is a counter on the PayPal website showing successful payments made.

People who buy and sell regularly on eBay are able to make online purchases without having to transfer money to a different account.
